The IEEE Region 10 SYWL Congress is a premier biannual gathering designed to cultivate and celebrate leadership among Students, Young Professionals, Women in Engineering (WIE), and Life Members across the Asia-Pacific. This year’s congress took place from August 29 to September 1, 2024, at the vibrant Yoyogi Olympic Memorial Youth Center in central Tokyo, Japan.

Hosted collaboratively by nine Japanese IEEE Sections, the congress welcomed 350 participants from diverse backgrounds and career stages. The program showcased a dynamic mix of innovation, mentorship, and cultural exchange. Featured activities included the Young Professionals Career and Leadership Aid Program (CLAP), a Robotics Competition, and an Industry Engagement Workshop, offering hands-on learning and real-world insight for emerging leaders in engineering.

The opening day featured a warm welcome and inspiring keynote by Prof. Miyanaga, IEEE Japan Council Chair, followed by a lively ice-breaking reception. The congress was honored by the presence of global IEEE leaders, including Tom Coughlin (IEEE President), Prof. Kathleen Kramer (IEEE President-elect), Prof. Lance Fung (Region 10 Director), Takako Hashimoto (Region 10 Director-elect), and Kathy Hayashi (Region 6 Director), among others.

The four-day event was filled with eight impactful plenary sessions, each followed by breakout discussions that encouraged idea-sharing and regional collaboration. Evening activities brought the community together through an Awards Reception and a Cultural Night, celebrating diversity, unity, and the unique spirit of IEEE volunteers.

Representing the IEEE Thailand Section were Dr. Supavadee Aramvith, Dr. Khanita Duangchaemkarn (Section Treasurer), and Dr. Thitaporn (Section Secretary), who actively participated in leadership discussions and engaged with peers from across Region 10. Their presence emphasized Thailand’s active role in supporting youth, professional development, and inclusivity in engineering.

The 2024 SYWL Congress once again highlighted the strength of volunteerism and the importance of nurturing future leaders within IEEE. The bonds formed in Tokyo will continue to inspire collaboration, mentorship, and innovation throughout Region 10 and beyond.
